Swimming Pools & Landscape — Evolution Projects

A pool is a system, not a shape. Behind the water sit a basin, a pump, a filter, a chemical feeder, drains and returns, and the plumbing that ties them together in a continuous cycle. We design that system around the site before we shape anything, so the pool stays clean, efficient and economical to run for its whole life.

The same thinking applies above ground. Our landscape work covers soft and hard landscaping, irrigation and water control, leisure areas and courtyards, outdoor lighting and ongoing garden maintenance — delivered by teams who plan the planting, the falls, the drainage and the water supply as one design rather than as separate trades.

Our method

Trusted, certified, and executed with care

A beautiful garden does not stay beautiful on its own, and a pool does not stay clear on its own. Our approach is built around that fact:

  • A site study before any design work begins.
  • A system designed around the ground conditions, the water source and the way the space will be used.
  • Approved materials and equipment from established manufacturers.
  • Sub-base, falls and drainage treated as part of the design, not an afterthought.
  • Execution by specialist teams for pools, landscaping and irrigation.
  • Commissioning, testing and handover with operating instructions.
  • Maintenance programmes that keep the result looking the way it did on handover.
Scope

What this division covers

01

Pool design & construction

We design and build swimming pools of regular and irregular shape, from the excavation and the reinforced shell through to the tiling, coping and final commissioning.

The type of pool is selected according to the site, the budget, the intended use and the long-term running cost. Each construction type carries its own trade-offs, and we set them out plainly before a decision is made.

Pool types we build and advise on

  • Concrete (gunite) pools — the most popular and most durable, fully customisable in shape and size, with multiple surface finishes; higher initial cost and longer construction time.
  • Fibreglass pools — a moulded basin surrounded by a concrete deck, more expensive up front but with significantly lower maintenance costs and a smooth, comfortable surface.
  • Vinyl liner pools — a flexible liner inside a frame or concrete wall structure, less expensive than concrete, with the liner replaceable every 7–10 years.
  • Above-ground pools — the cheapest and easiest to build from prefabricated kits, less durable and easy to dismantle and relocate.

The scope of work includes

  • Site survey, setting out and excavation.
  • The reinforced basin and shell structure.
  • Plumbing, drains, returns and skimmers.
  • Waterproofing and surface finishes.
  • Tiling, coping and pool surrounds.
  • Underwater lighting.
  • Jacuzzi, reef and beach-entry features.
  • Commissioning, filling and water balancing.

Filtration systems & pool maintenance

Nearly every pool works the same way: a combination of filtration and chemical treatment continuously cleans a large volume of water. The pump drives that cycle, moving water from the pool through the filtration and treatment systems and back again, so the water stays free of dirt, debris and bacteria.

We supply, install, service and upgrade the whole of that system, and provide the scheduled maintenance that keeps it running.

Typical pool system components

  • Basin.
  • Pump.
  • Filter.
  • Chemical feeder.
  • Drains and returns.
  • PVC plumbing.

The scope of work includes

  • Sizing and installation of pumps and filters.
  • Healthy cleaning and filtering systems.
  • Chemical dosing and water balancing.
  • Plant room pipework and valve sets.
  • Servicing of pumps, filters and control panels.
  • Water testing and treatment.
  • Cleaning, brushing and vacuuming of the pool.
  • Scheduled maintenance contracts.
  • Repair of leaks, cracks and liner damage.

Water features & water gardens

A pool no longer has to be a plain rectangle in the corner of a garden. Fountains, falls, reefs and multi-level features turn the water into the focal point of the space, and can be built into a new pool or added to an existing one.

The scope of work includes

  • Regular and irregular shaped swimming pools.
  • Water gardens.
  • Multi-level water features.
  • Ponds and artificial lakes.
  • Fountains and sculptures.
  • Waterfalls and cascades.
  • Feature lighting and pump systems.

Landscape design & implementation

In planning a landscape design it is important to keep in mind the basic principles that complement each other. Properly applied, they ensure a garden that is pleasing to look at and to be in.

We work closely with our clients so the garden reflects their personality and the way they will use it, and we choose elements that suit the climate and the environment surrounding the site.

The principles we design to

  • Unity — the parts look as if they were meant to be together, and no one plant or feature dominates unless it is intended as a focal point.
  • Balance — achieved through symmetry in a formal garden, or through asymmetry where different features balance each side of an axis.
  • Transition — elements arranged in logical order so the viewer's eye is drawn along, through changing textures, forms and leaf sizes.
  • Proportion or scale, rhythm, views and focal point, and order.

The scope of work includes

  • Indoor plants, outdoor plants and grass of all types.
  • Stones, concrete, marble and materials of all kinds.
  • Soft landscaping and planting schemes.
  • Hard landscaping, paving and walkways.
  • Turfing and artificial grass.
  • Trees, palms, hedges and flower beds.
  • Planters, edging and retaining features.

Irrigation & water control systems

Irrigation is the artificial application of water to plants to ensure adequate moisture for growth. Two types suit landscape work: sprinkler irrigation, generally used for lawns and vegetable gardens, and drip or trickle irrigation — the frequent, slow application of water to the soil through emitters, which suits individual plants such as shrubs and trees.

Several factors are considered in planning an irrigation system: the irrigation needs of the targeted plants, the shape of the area, the soil type and intake capacity, the water source, and the operational requirement in hours per day, automatic or manual.

Key benefits

  • Automatic and manual irrigation systems.
  • Very low downtime.
  • Durable and lasting efficiency, low maintenance cost.
  • Power saving.
  • Water saving.

The scope of work includes

  • Sprinkler irrigation.
  • Drip irrigation.
  • Smart controllers.
  • Pump stations.
  • Rain sensors.
  • Valve boxes and distribution networks.
  • Maintenance of existing irrigation systems.

Leisure areas, courtyards & patios

Designing spaces for relaxation, connection and lasting memories. A leisure area or backyard garden space is a wonderful gift to children — these areas can hold platforms, seesaws, a swing or a slide, and part of planning play spaces is a function of the children's age.

Young children should be kept close to the house so they can easily be watched and heard. As with plants, avoid those that are thorny and certainly those that are poisonous. A lawn can be an ideal play space, provided the grass is tough enough and has some capacity to heal itself.

A courtyard is an open space surrounded by walls or buildings, adjoining or within a building such as a large house or housing complex.

What we design

  • From art design to peaceful patio.
  • Art designs with function utilisation.
  • Civil work design.
  • Ethnic designs matching all styles.
  • Shaded areas.
  • Climate-suitable designs.

Types of leisure space we design

  • Patio areas.
  • Shaded seating.
  • Outdoor kitchens.
  • Fire pits.
  • Walkways.
  • Decorative spaces.
  • Pergolas and gazebos.
  • Children's play areas.

Outdoor lighting & garden maintenance

A lawn doesn't stay beautiful on its own. Wear and tear — along with harmful natural and unnatural causes — can ruin a garden. With proper care and maintenance, a property can stay healthy and beautiful all year long.

We provide outdoor and feature lighting alongside scheduled horticultural maintenance, either as a one-off or under an annual contract.

The general scope of maintenance we offer

  • Watering of plants as required.
  • Cleaning of foliage, planters, and bed aeration as required.
  • Pruning and trimming as required.
  • Fertiliser application as required.
  • Pest and disease control as required.
  • Replacement of plants as required.
  • Rubbish collection and disposal from green areas.
  • Maintenance of the existing irrigation system, excluding spare parts and pump system.
  • Outdoor, path and feature lighting.
  • Other necessary external horticultural practices.
